Congress may vote as soon as Friday on a plan to cut all federal money for public transit and spend it on more highways instead.
The plan is to pay for more highways by selling off rights to drill for oil and gas all over America's land and water.
Spending on highways creates fewer jobs than investing in public transportation. And it doesn't make sense since Americans are driving less and riding public transportation more.
Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, a former Republican legislator, declared it is "the worst transportation bill in history."
Let's send a clear message to Congress: We need to reduce our dependence on oil and invest in a smarter system that will provide the transportation choices Americans want.
